Nikhil Narayan brings over 20 years of field-based experience as a scholar and practitioner in international human rights, humanitarian and criminal law, transitional justice, and post-conflict constitutional and justice sector reform. He has worked with national and international NGOs, including the International Commission of Jurists, directing complex, bi- and multilateral donor-funded programs across Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. He has frequently collaborated with multilateral organizations, NGOs and universities to design and implement capacity-building training programs, conduct fact-finding missions, and lead monitoring and evaluation assessments for international donors. Nikhil has a PhD and is lecturer at Queen’s University Belfast, Northern Ireland, where he focuses on international law, transitional justice, and governance. His most recent work examines the scope and content of the principle of guarantees of non-recurrence in transitional justice, through the lens of Sri Lanka as an empirical case study. His forthcoming monograph on this subject presents a novel interdisciplinary approach based on applied political economy analysis to advance a more transformative peace and justice in the aftermath of mass violence and atrocities. An experienced scholar and practitioner, he has regularly provided expert analysis and has authored numerous policy briefs, field studies, and scholarship on peace, conflict, and justice.
